Why Make the NIV the Reference Text?

Unless otherwise indicated, all Scriptural quotations are from the New International Version.

The use of the NIV as the reference text in Alberith does not mean that we believe that it is the "best" English translation—however the adjective is defined. Even The Committee responsible for its translation are humble enough to admit that "[L]ike all translations of the Bible, maded as they are by imperfect man, this one undoubtedly falls short of its goals." We use it, nonetheless, because it is the translation most widely used in the English-speaking world today (though some sources suggest that that honour belongs to the KJV in USA).

We recognize the NIV's weaknesses and in the relevant places we point these out and provide the correctives we feel are needed, including what other translations say. We reckon that, since no translation is perfect, this is something that will need to be done anyway with whatever translation we choose to use as our reference text.
