Holtzmann-Streeter Hypothesis

Presently the most dominsny of the four main hypotheses regarding how the origins of the Synoptic Gospels that proposes that Mark wrote his Gospel first. Matthew and Luke—independently of one another—then used Mark to compose their Gospels. In doing so, Matthew had additional recourse to another souce (called Q) which was also availble to Luke as well as a source (scholars call it the M) that Luke had no access to. Luke, on the other hand, had available Q as well as a source (designated L by scholars) that Matthew either had no acess or no known to him.
