Immanence

The adjective 'immanent' simply means "indwelling," "pervading." Immanence, or immanancy, refers to the pervasion of the universe by an/the intelligent and creative principle, and is a fundamental concept of pantheism and New Ageism.

When Christian used the term with reference to God, however, we mean something different. Immanance is an aspect of the Christian doctrine of creation: space and time are the two fundamental facts of creation. God, however, is immanent not in the sense that He is "in" or penetrates all things, but in the sense that all points in space and all moments in time are present to Him. Another way of putting it is to say that He cannot be restricted in time or space, and can, therefore, be present at any number of places at the same time.
