The oldest professorship at the University of Cambridge, founded by Lady Margaret Beaufort, mother of King Henry VII, in 1502. A similar chair called simply Lady Margaret Professor of Divinity is found in Christ Church of the University of Oxford. No woman professors have held the former chair, though Carol Harrison became the first woman theologian to be appointed to the Oxford professorship.
