Zeruiah

One of David's two sisters (the other was Abigail) and daughter of Jesse (1 Chron 2:11). Her three sons were Abishai, Joab and Asahel, all of them captainss of David's fighting men. Though her name appears rather frequently (25x) it is always in reference to her sons (usually either in the expressions "Joab son of Zeruiah" or "Abishai son of Zeruiah"). There is no mention of her husband in Scriptures; presumably he died young and her sons were thus named with reference to her.
