1. In speaking specifically of "all kinds of speech and . . . knowledge" Paul is already thinking of the problems that would have to be addressed in his current letter. Logos, 'speech' and gnosis, 'knowledge,' appears more frequently in the two Corinthian letters than in all the other Pauline letters. Logos is used in 1 & 2 Cor 26c, compared to 58x in all the other letters, while gnosis is used 16x compared to 7x in the rest. We shall return to the significance of this later in the commentary.
