1. Christensen has suggested that the people's request for spies constituted a sin (Deuteronomy 1:1-21:9, 29). There is no evidence anywhere in the texts for such a suggestion, and the chiasmus he proposes for 1:19-2:1, wherein this event is counter-posed by Israel''s sin of presumption (vv40-41), is contrived.
