2. Of the verbs, bo', halak, and 'ala, which played such prominent roles in the last section, only halak and 'ala appear, three and two times, respectively, in this section. Tigay (Deuteronomy, 23) thinks that the use of this verb, 'abar, echoes the name of the region the Israelites were passing through—'eber hayyarden, "across the Jordan," i.e., the Trans-Jordan.
3. This is exceeded only by Deut 20 which lays down the regulations for engagement in war.
