1. Some English versions, such as the KJV, NKJ & NASB, omit the phrase "Let's go out to the field." With the form of the verb used here in the Hebrew text, wayyo'mer, one expects it to be followed by the words that were spoken. These are missing in the Massoretic Text. The phrase, however, is found in many ancient translations of the OT, notably the Septuagint, the Vulgate, the Samaritan Pentateuch and Syriac. On the assumption that these ancient translations probably had access to other ancient Hebrew manuscripts (but now lost to us), some English versions adopt the phrase from these translations. Others omit the phrase and interpret the verb as a more casual "talked" instead. I would opt for the adoption; though not crucial, it makes better sense.
