Qualifications for Overseers in 1 Timothy & Titus

The apostle Paul's requirements ofr persons seeking to be overseers in two lists: 1 Tim 3:2-7 and Titus 1:6-9.

1 Timothy 3:2-7

1. Above reproach, 3:2a,

2. Husband of one wife, 3:2b,

3. Temperate-Sober-minded, 3:2c,

4. Self-controlled, 3:2d,

5. Respected, 3:2e,

6. Hospitable, 3:2f,

7. Able to Teach, 3:2g,

8. Not a drunkard, 3:3a,

9. Not violent but gentle, 3:3b,

10. Not quarrelsome, 3:3c,

11. No lover of money, 3:3d,

12. Must manage his family well, 3:4a(-5),

13. His children must obey him, 3:4b(-5),

14. Not be a recent convert, 3:6,

15. Good reputation with outsiders, 3:7.

Titus 1:6-9

1. Above reproach, 1:6a,

2. Husband of one wife, 1:6b,

3. His children not open to charged with being wild or disobedient, but keep the faith, 1:6c,

4. Not overbearing/arrogant, 1:7c,

5. Not quick-tempered, 1:7d,

6. Not a drunkard, 1:7e,

7. Not violent, 1:7f,

8. Does not pursue dishonest gain, 1:7g,

9. Hospitable, 1:8a,

10. Loves what is good, 1:8b,

11. Self-controlled, 1:8c,

12. Upright, 1:8d,

13. Holy, 1:8e,

14. Disciplined, 1:8f,

15. Able to give sound teaching, 1:9(ff.).
