The expression "from Egypt, the house of slavery"—or "land of slavery," (NIV, NASB)—which translates Hebrew, mibbet 'abadim, occurs 12x in the OT. It is expressive of Israel's past and how Yahweh had delivered her from her bondage, a reminder of where she was before and where she should be headed. The use of the word bet, 'house,' rather than 'erets, suggest it should probably be understood in the sense of 'dynasty,' and, therefore, indicative of the "sphere of influence/domination" rather than the "territory of occupation." In contrast to "the house of slavery," Israel was intended to live in "the house of Yahweh" (though the latter term is almost always understood as referring merely to the temple).

Deut. 13:5 — That prophet or dreamer must be put to death for inciting rebellion against the Lord your God, who brought you out of Egypt and redeemed you from the land of slavery. That prophet or dreamer tried to turn you from the way the Lord your God commanded you to follow. You must purge the evil from among you.
Deut. 13:10 — Stone them to death, because they tried to turn you away from the Lord your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery.
Jos. 24:17 — It was the Lord our God himself who brought us and our parents up out of Egypt, from that land of slavery, and performed those great signs before our eyes. He protected us on our entire journey and among all the nations through which we traveled.
Judg. 6:8 — . . . he sent them a prophet, who said, "This is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: I brought you up out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery.
