1. Dates are traditionally tagged as either BC or AD with the birth of Jesus separating the two epoch. In an effort to be culturally sensitive, historians nowadays substitute CE (for Common Era) and BCE (Before Common Era) for AD and BC instead. The actual figure is still reckoned from the birth of Jesus Christ, however.
