No one in history has had more written about him than Jesus. To echo John the Evangelist, "there are many more famous quotes other than these as well. If everyone of them were to be recorded, I suppose that even the whole world would not have room for the quotes that could be quoted." Nonetheless, we hope these will inspire you to reflect more deeply on all that Jesus has done for us and on who he is. The quotations are arranged in no particular order.
"How can anyone have anything new to say about Jesus without being a crank or a maverick, or, worse, making Jesus himself into one?"
N. T. Wright, Jesus and the Victory of God (Christian Origins and the Question of God, Vol II; Minneapolis: Fortress, 1996) xiii.
What you say about Jesus affects your entire worldview. If you see Jesus differently, everything changes. Turn this small rudder, and the whole ship will change tack.
N. T. Wright, Jesus and the Victory of God (Christian Origins and the Question of God, Vol II; Minneapolis: Fortress, 1996) xiv.
A man who was merely a man and said the sort of things Jesus said wouldn't be a great moral teacher; he'd either be insane or else he'd be the devil of hell. You must make your choice. Either this man was and is the Son of God or else insane or something worse. But don't let us come up with any patronizing nonsense about his being a great human teacher. He hasn't left that open to us. He didn't intend to.
