Chokma - Wisdom

Like most abstract concepts, wisdom is a broad and general idea that is never defined in the Bible. As it is expressed in the Old Testament, wisdom (choma/hokmah) is a complex of different ideas, including the fear of God that is expressed in a person's spiritual, moral and ethical conduct, the embrace of God's gifting that is expressed in the intelligence and excellence with which a person works at what is in his hands to do, as well as the sensitivity to and discernment of one's surrounding —whether in public or private—so that his is a life of relational harmony and personal confidence and contentment. Encompassing all these expressions is the essential idea of discerning and understanding how things work, whatever realms they may be, and making the most this understanding in practical ways.
