Reported only in John's Gospel both places were where John the Baptist was baptizing the people in the wilderness near the Jordan (Jn 3:22; "Now John also was baptising at Aenon near Salim, because there was plenty of water, and people were constantly coming to be baptised."). The locations both of Aenon and Salim remain uncertain.
