Four individuals by this name are mentioned in the Old Testament, all of them only in passing.
1) Son of Gemalli, the scout representing the tribe of Dan, sent out by Moses from Kadesh-Barnea to explore the land of Canaan in preparation for its conquest (Num 13:12).
2) Father of Makir in Lo Debar (in Transjordan) who had taken care of Mephibosheth, Jonathan's crippled son, until the latter was sent for by David and installed in Jerusalem (2 Sam 9:45). Makir was also one of the leaders in Transjordan to come to David's aid and support when David fled from Jerusalem during the revolt by Absalom (2 Sam 17:27). We therefore know more about this Ammiel's son than about him.
3) Father of Bathsheba, the wife of Uriah with whom David committed adultery and later married (1 Chron 3:5).
4) Son of Obed-Edom, one of the gatekeepers during the reign of King David (1 Chron 26:5).
