Amram

At least two persons by this name (which means 'people of the exalted,' possibly implying 'those belonging to Yahweh') are mentioned in the Bible.

1) Son of Kohath and grandson of Levi who "married his father's sister" Jochebed, with whom he sired Miriam, Aaron and Moses (Num 26:59). From him is descended the clan of Amramites (Num 3:27; 1 Chron 26:23). We know nothing else about him except that he lived 133 years (Exo 6:18).

2) A "descendant of Bani" who appears among the list of exiles who returned to Jerusalem and who was found to have married a foreign woman during Ezra's administration (Ezra 10:34). Nothing else is known about him.
