The term 'Apocryphal New Testament' is used loosely to refer to those books circulating during the first centuries AD that purport to record/report details of life and work of Jesus Christ and the apostles but which were never accorded the status of Scripture. Unlike the OT Apocrypha, these works never formed a collection; they were simply "a motley variety of literature whose only unity was its common non-canonical status" (Donald Guthrie).
Some of the more famous works in this vein include:
Gospel of Thomas
Apocryphon of John
Gospel of Philip
Gospel of Truth
Gospel of Nicodemus
Gospel of Peter
3 Corinthians
Apocalypse of Paul
