Apodictic laws are laws that are stated absolutely, such as the Ten Commandments: "You shall not . . . " as opposed to casuistic laws which apply only under prescribed circumstances and take the form: "if such and such happens, then you shall do this and that."
The adjective by itself means 'necessarily true,' 'beyond contradition.' It is derived from two Greek words: apo, signifying 'completion,' and deiknynai, 'to demonstrate.'
