A Christian worker or evangelist at Colossae whom Paul, in writing to the church and perhaps because the former was facing a difficult time, encourages, "See to it that you complete the work you have received in the Lord" (Col 4:17). We know nothing about him, except that he seemed also to have been a friend of Philemon, for Paul includes him (as "our fellow-soldier") in his greetings in his letter to Philemon (1:2). Traditions have suggested that he may be a member of Philemon's family, that he was one of Jesus's seventy disciples and that he died a martyr near Laodicea.
