The name of two persons living at vastly different times in the OT.
1. The king of Ellasar, mentioned as a member of the alliance of Amraphel, the king of Shinar in the latter's attempt to punish his rebel vassals during which Lot was captured and had to be rescued by Abram (Gen 14). Nothing is known both about him or his kingdom of Ellasar; both of them being reported only here, and only incidentally, in the OT.
Concordance:
NIV Gen 14:1 — At the time when Amraphel was king of Shinar, Arioch king of Ellasar, Kedorlaomer king of Elam and Tidal king of Goyim,
NIV Gen 14:9 — . . . against Kedorlaomer king of Elam, Tidal king of Goyim, Amraphel king of Shinar and Arioch king of Ellasar—four kings against five.
2. The "commander of the king's guard" who was tasked with Nebuchadnezzar's command to have all the wise men of the land put to death because none of them could explain to the king what his dream was or meant (Dan 2:4). When Daniel heard about the king's edict, he asked the king for some time so that he may interpret the dream for him. During the night God revealed its meaning to Daniel, who reported back to the king what his dream was (the enormous statue made of gold, silver, bronze, iron, and clay) and what it meant. As a result of this Daniel was placed in high office at the royal courts, together with his companions, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego.
Concordance:
NIV Dan 2:14 — When Arioch, the commander of the king's guard, had gone out to put to death the wise men of Babylon, Daniel spoke to him with wisdom and tact.
NIV Dan. 2:15 — He asked the king's officer, "Why did the king issue such a harsh decree?" Arioch then explained the matter to Daniel.
NIV Dan. 2:24 — Then Daniel went to Arioch, whom the king had appointed to execute the wise men of Babylon, and said to him, "Do not execute the wise men of Babylon. Take me to the king, and I will interpret his dream for him."
NIV Dan. 2:25 — Arioch took Daniel to the king at once and said, "I have found a man among the exiles from Judah who can tell the king what his dream means."
