It has been suggested since early times that Barnabas was the author of Hebrews, and it is not difficult to see why. Tertullian, e.g., ascribes Hebrews to Barnabas, though without giving any reasons. But Barnabas was a Levite; he would, therefore, have had an innate interest in the all the Jewish liturgical institutions, and understood what implications the death and resurrection of Jesus had on them. At best, however, it is a guest; the author of Hebrews remain anonymous.
