Carpus

Not one of the persons known to most Christians, Carpus was the disciple residing in Troas with whom Paul had left his personal belongings, "my cloak . . . my scrolls, especially the parchments" (2 Tim 4:13). When Paul was in prison he had written to his mentoree Timothy to "do your best to come to me quickly," and when he does to drop by in Troas to fetch those belongings to him.

The nature of the objects suggests that Paul was a regular guest in Carpus' home, and that Carpus was an entrusted friend. Beyond this incidental note we know nothing of him. Nevertheless, Carpus remains, by his hospitality and trust, one of the unsung models of those who make a difference by their quiet and unseen contribution to the kingdom of God
