Castor and Pollux

Known as Kastor and Polydukes in Greek but Latinized as Castor and Pollux (and together known as the Dioscuri), Castor and Pollux were gods reputed to save those in trouble at sea and in war. They are mentioned only once in the NT. After being stranded on Malta for three months during Paul's journey to Rome, they found a ship that would finally bring them to the capital. Luke reports, "It was an Alexandrian ship with the figurehead of the twin gods Castor and Pollux" (Acts 28:11). Not surprising, Castor and Pollux are also the names of the stars that make up the constellation of Gemini (the Twins).
