Cathedral - Ex Cathedra

Though often thought of as churches of architectural grandeur, a cathedral is more accurately the church where the bishop (in episcopalian churches) resides and has his cathedra, Latin for 'throne.'

When the pope of the Roman Catholic Church speaks ex cathedra, 'from the throne,' what he says become binding on the church.
