A tiny principality in the plains between the Lebanon and Anti-Lebanon mountains, that at one time was ruled by the younger brother of Agrippa I, who is almost always referred to simply as Herod of Chalcis. Upon his death in 48 AD the principality was given to Agrippa II, who ruled it until 53 when he relinguished it in exchange for the larger kingdom of Abilene and the former territories of Philip the Tetrarch. While serving as a piece of valuable political pie, Chalcis never really amounted to much in economic value.
