Cilician Gates

Known now as the Gülek Pass, the Cilician Gates was a narrow gorge along the Gükoluk River which served as the major artery between the coastal plains of Cilicia to the Aatolian Plateau over the Taurus Mountains. About 30 miles (45 Km) north of Tarsus, Paul the apostle and his team of missionaries, no doubt, would have used it more than once in their missions to the Anatolian plateau. Though a major highway and railway pass through it now, a pre-modern photo in the Library of Congress (see below) more accurately depicts what Paul had to face on his journeys.
