Cypros, mother to Herod the Great, was an Arabian princess from Nabatea, which had its capital at Petra and was reaching its peak of wealth and civilization. The marriage greatly enhanced the influence and power of the Herodian family. She bore Antipater, in addition to Herod, three other sons—Phasael, Joseph, Pheroras—and a daughter, Salome.
Herod evidently honoured her enought to have one of his fortresses near Jericho named after her. She is not mentioned in the Bible.
