Cyrus II the Great

Cyrus II was the founder of the Persian (Achaemenid) empire, whose conquest of the Babylonian empire brought the whole of the ancient Near East, with the exception of Egypt, within his rule. From the biblical perspective he is famous for being the king who issued the edict that restored the Jewish exiles to their homeland under the leadership of Zerubabbel and Ezra (2 Chr 36:22Ezra 1:1).
