Death of God

An expression made famous by German nihilist writer Friedrich Nietzsche to express the loss of meaningful existence in the modern world, of the difficulty of speaking meaningfully about God in a secular society. From this, the expression has been applied to such things as "the Death of God theology" or "the Death of God movement," referring to various—largely Western Protestant—attempts to articulate ways of giving meaning and value to a life without God.
