The name of both a place and a person in the Old Testament. This article deals with the place.
Eglon is mentioned as one of the Amorite city-states to which Adoni-Zedek appealed for help in the war against Joshua (Jos 10:3). The coalition moved against the Israelites at Gibeon, where in the battle in which "the sun stood still," they were defeated and later put to death and hung on a tree (10:22-26). The city of Eglon itself was later destroyed by the Israelites (10:34-35).
