A theoretical construct used by scholars to refer to what they believe to be the source (documents, traditions, persons) for the composition of those parts of the Pentateuch in which the preferred name for God is 'elohim, "God."
This construct is part of a broader theoretical concept that the Pentateuch was composed using four main source of material designated J (Yahwistic), E (Elohistic), D (Deuteronomistic), and P (Priestly). Though not quite defunct, these hypotheses no longer enjoy the popularity they once used to.
Preaching Relevance: We cannot imagine any situation in a sermon where this word or the theory underlining it could have any possible use.
