A site/spring—the name may mean "the spring at the foot" or "the spring of the spies/foot-soldiers"—mentioned only four time in the Bible; twice as a boundary marker between the allotments of Judah and Benjamin (Jos 15:7 & 18:16), once as the residence of David's servants Jonathan and Ahimaaz (2 Sam 17:17), and finally as the location where Adonijah had hosted his party in an attempt to have himself crowned king when his father, King David, had grown decrepit (1 Ki 1:9).
Though the details in the various passages make it certain that it was located somewhere south of the city of Jerusalem, its precise location has not been identified.
