Epithet

An adjective or phrase expressing a quality or attribute that is regarded as characteristic of the subject. It is sometimes used as a synonym for 'nickname,' or 'sobriquet.' Nehemiah (1:5), e.g., gives the Lord the epithet "the great and awesome God."
