Evangelism describes both the act and the craft of reaching out with the good news of the gospel in order that men and women may come to know Christ and the blessings of restoration with God. Defined simply, evangelism is simply "talking about Jesus" especially among non-Christians. Another useful way of thinking about evangelism is "one beggar telling other beggars where to find food."
While for reasons of our personal differences, some of us will be more confident in the act and more at home with the craft of evangelism, all Christians have the responsibility to evanglise. The question is how we do it. "Non-success" can never be an excuse for opting out of the task for, ultimately, it is the Holy Spirit alone who can bring about the conviction of sin and repentance that results then in rebirth in Christ. Only God can save people; we simply open ourselves to being used by Him. Evangelism, as Daphne Ross (see Media Resources below) so wisely reminds us, should never make us guilty.
The subject is vast, but we hope the resources we have pooled together below helps. Remember, however, as you read and use these resources, that you apply what you read wisely, taking care to reflect on the culture within which you live and how some of them may not only not work but could have disastrous impact on your society. This is perhaps nowhere more evident that the "I Found It" campaign waged by the North American movement Campus Crusade for Christ in some Asian countries several decades ago. While it was highly effective in the US, its method created hostile responses from many non-Christians (certainly from the Muslims in Malaysia in which I live). So, whatever you do, be particularly wise.
