Fascism

A political belief centered around four main ideas: totalitarianism, economic socialism, extreme nationalism, and xenophobia. The name derives from the fasces, an axe embedded in a bundle of rods which was the symbol of the Roman Empire, a symbol of power and authority. Fascism entered into modern cultural consciousness with the founding of the Italian Fascist Party founded by Benito Mussolini and which came to power in 1922, and of the Nazis under Adolf Hitler.
