German Christians

A movement of churches in Germany from 1933-45, and led Martin Müller which sought to align itself with the interests of Adolf Hitler and the Nazi to promote Aryan supremacist, German nationalist and anti-Jewish ideology and policies. Already weakened by liberal theology (in which many German theologians were in the driving seat) such a move did not prove difficult for many Christians in Germany at the time when Hitler was coming to power. They were, however, opposed by the Confessing Church.
