Girgashites

Mentioned 7x in the OT, the Girgashite were one of the seven people group ("nations") who occupied the land of Canaan before its conquest by the Israelites under Joshua.

We first meet the Girgashites when they are listed—together with the Sidonians, Hittites, Jebusites, Amorites, Hivites, Arkites, Sinites, Arvadites, Zemarites and Hamathites—as the descendants of Canaan in the so-called 'Table of Nations' (Gen 10:10). They were one of the major inhabitants of the land when God first made the promise to Abram to give his descendants the land of Canaan (Gen 15:21). With the exception of 1 Chron 1:14 (where their descendence from Canaan is reiterated) all subsequent references to them relate to this promise (mostly as reporting its fulfilment). As a result of this, we know nothing specific about them as a people.
