Hominid - Hominin

A term used in paleoanthropology to describe animals—and the fossils they left behind—that were thought to be humanlike and very likely part of the evolutionary circle within which humans evolved. Many would include living species such as humans, chimpanzees and gorillas in the expression. More recent literature increasingly use the term Hominin for those species that are considered more decisively human and excludes such species as the apes.
