Kings of Israel

19 kings ruled the northern nation of Israel from its split with the south immediately after the death of Solomon to the final sacking of Samaria and the permanent deportation of the ten northern tribes into exile under the Assyrians in 722 BC. While Judah had remained with the David dynasty, Israel's monarchy was riddled with usurpers who came to the throne by royal assassination and who in their turn were often murdered soon afterwards. On this Zimri holds the record; he reigned only seven days. 9 dynastic changes in two centuries witness to the internal political and social dislocation of the kingdom.
