Joshua

The fifth book in the Old Testament, the book of Joshua is the first book in the division known as the Former Prophets in the Hebrew Bible, and the first book in the division known as Historical Books in the English Bible. At one level the book is a compressed account of Israel's conquest of the Promised Land led by Joshua. At a more theological level, the book serves also to affirm that God has kept his promise made once to Abraham, that his children would one day inherit the land of Canaan.
