Fourth son of Jacob by Leah, and eponymous father of the Jews.
Shelah is recorded in Luke's genealogy of Jesus as "the son of Cainan, the son of Arphaxah"; Cainan being an otherwise unknown synonym for Judah (Lk 3:35)
