Lemma (pl., 'lemmas' or 'lemmata') is a word that appears often in Bible software, and it refers to the so-called 'canonical' form of the word you would need to search for in a dictionary or lexicon if you wish to look up on its meaning. E.g., if you are looking up a lexicon for the meaning of 'construction,' you would have to look under 'construct.' 'Construct' is the lemma. The lemma also indicates the alphabethical order in which the word appears. The full set of all the various forms of words related to the lemma, e.g., constructs, constructing, constructor, etc., are known as the lexeme. Lemma is now often used instead of the 'root' of in some Bible softwares; the two, however, refer to entirely different concepts altogether.
