Lisbon Earthquake

1766

The powerful earthquake that shock up the Spanish city of Lisbon on 1766. What has made the event so "iconic" was the fact that the day was All Souls' Day, the Cathedral was filled with the faithful gathered for the event when it came tumbling down and killing most of the congregation. The event raised the question of how a loving God could have allowed such a thing to happen. The event gave opponents of Christianity a golden opportunity to justify their unbelief.
