The Lord's Prayer

The name of a prayer often recited in worship services and based on the prayer that Jesus taught the disciples recorded in Matt 6:9-13. The most common form of the prayer is:

Our Father, who is in heaven,
Hallowed by your name.

Your kingdom come.

Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us our daily bread,
and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us.

Lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from the evil one.

For yours is the kingdom, the power, and the glory.

The prayer is especially important because it provides in a very condensed way what it means to become children of God. It is also a highly relevant but often ignored subject for preaching.
