Magna cum laude

One of the Latin terms used to indicate the distinction of one's university degree, a system used mostly in American universities. Magna cum laude, "with great praise," is actually only the second to the top tier of educational accomplishments. The highest is summa cum laude. Cum laude is the lowest of the three grades of honour.

Summa cum laude almost always requires a Grade Point Average (GPA) of a solid 4. Magna requires at least 3.6, usually 3.7.
