A school of thought and phase in the historical study of the Old Testament popular among Scaninavian and English scholars in the early half of the last century which holds that ancient Israel religion, as it is reflected in the Old Testament, evolved from taking over pagan Canaanite myths and rituals and adapting them to Israelite clothings.
