Nahshon

An important leader of the tribe of Judah listed in all the biblical genealogies of David and Jesus. He first appears in the pronouncement of Aaron's marriage to his sister, Elisheba (Exo 6:23). As leader responsible for the tribe of Judah during the time of Israel's journey to the Promised Land, Nahshon oversaw the welfare of some 74,600 persons (Num 2:3), and representing them in the cultic functions during that time (Num 7:12-17). Since the census was taken of men "twenty years old or more who are able to serve in the army" (2:3), we may assume that Nahshon led his men in battle as well.
