Pauline Epistles

The thirteen letters attributed to the Apostle Paul as their author which are found in the New Testament. These include (in the order in which they appear):

Romans, CS

1 Corinthians, CS

2 Corinthians, CS

Galatians, CS

Ephesians, CS

Philippians, CS

Colossians, CS

1 Thessalonians, CS

2 Thessalonians, CS

1 Timothy, CS

2 Timothy, CS

Titus, CS,

Philemon. CS

All of them were occasional letters, i.e., they were written to address specific needs as they arose in the course of Paul's ministry of the gospel to the Gentiles. Chronologically they spanned a period of about two decades, beginning with first—dealing with the problem of the Judaisers in the churches in Galatia—about 48 AD, to his last so-called pastoral letter to Timothy, probably just before his death in c.67, in which he urgedthe younger disciple to "do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth . . . preach the Word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage—with great patience and careful instruction" and "do you best to come to me quicklycome to me quickly" Most likely his letters appeared in the following order (most likely dates, AD, in brackets):

Galatians (c.48),

1 & 2 Thessalonians (c.49-51),

1 Corinthians (c.55),

2 Corinthians (c.56),

Romans (c.57),

The Prison Epistles (Colossians, Ephesians, Philippians, & Philemon, c.60-61),

1 Timothy & Titus (c.63),

2 Timothy (c.67).
