Simply put, replacement theology is the belief that the Christian, largely Gentile, Church has replaced Israel as the people of God, therefore, abolishing any place in the plan and purpose of God for the Jews; Israel's place in God's plan has, therefore, been superseded.
There wa a time when replacement theology was a reality of the Western churches, esp., in medieval times, and served as the basis for its Jewish hatred and pogroms. Today, however, it is a scarecrow; it would be difficult to find a replacement theologian either by conviction or confession except perhaps among white supremacists (even they would not want to say aloud too much about it except among themselves). Still the term retains its currency as a powerful term of abuse hurled by Zionists, pro-Zionist Christians, dispensationalists, restorationalists and threatened Jews of whatever persuasion at those who disagree with them, no matter what it is specifically that the dissenters are saying and always with rather blatant accussations of anti-Semitism. It has, in effect, become a shouting slogan for when one does not wish to engage in serious and fair-minded discussion, which when done properly is always exhaustive on one's courage, patience, and integrity.
